Six questions narrow 104 models down to a handful.
A longtail rides like a normal bike and carries children behind you. A front loader keeps them in a box in front, in view. A trike stands on its own but is wide, and a compact fits lifts and hallways.
Buying guides by type →Check two numbers: the rating of the rack or box, and the permitted total weight including rider and bike. Two children with seats and bags reach 60 to 70 kg quickly.
Filter by payload →With a full load on hills you want 80 Nm or more. On flat routes 50 to 65 Nm is enough, and the bike is often lighter and cheaper.
How we estimate range →A front loader is 2.4 to 2.7 m long and needs ground-level parking. Compact cargo bikes under 1.9 m fit in a lift, and some stand upright on their tail.
Compact cargo bikes →Electric cargo bikes start at around 2,500 € and reach 9,000 € and more. Child seats, rain cover and a second battery are usually extra, so compare complete configurations.
Cargo bikes under 5,000 € →A belt with a hub gear costs more but needs almost no care and shifts at a standstill. A derailleur is lighter and cheaper, and wants regular cleaning if you ride in all weathers.

A longtail has an extended rear rack: children sit behind you and the bike is as narrow as a normal one. A front loader has a box between you and the front wheel: you see the children, but the bike is longer and needs more parking space.
Most models in our catalog cost between 3,000 € and 8,000 €. Compact models start lower; fully suspended front loaders with large batteries cost the most.
With a load and mixed terrain, plan on 35 to 60 km for a 500 to 750 Wh battery. Manufacturer figures are measured under ideal conditions; we estimate range for every bike with the same reference scenario.
Longtails usually carry two, some three. Front loaders and trikes carry two to four in the box. What matters is the load rating and the permitted total weight, not the number of seats.
Figures come from manufacturer and dealer data. Where a number could not be confirmed, the text says so instead of guessing.
